about Janet

I started practicing yoga in 2005 as a undergraduate engineering student in need of stress relief and body awareness. As I progressed through my engineering career, I felt a greater and greater need to deepen my yoga practice to maintain balance in my life.

From 2006-2007 I lived in Hong Kong and traveled frequently to mainland China to oversee and coordinate factory operations for the American consumer product company I was employed by. During this time I became a dedicated practitioner at Pure Yoga and began to be aware of the depth and subtleties of Astanga yoga, Forrest yoga, and Anusara yoga. From Monday to Friday, I was on the road and staying primarily in hotels - I developed a somewhat surprising in-hotel practice, finding that the narrow entryways in most Dongguan hotel rooms were perfect for catching me when I fell out of handstands and forearmstands :).

By 2008 I had moved back to the Boston, MA area and found a beautiful local Astanga-based yoga studio: O2 Yoga. I enrolled in my first teacher training program and began teaching in earnest that summer. Teaching and practicing the distinctive O2 style, rooted in the system of classical Astanga yoga, really honed my love for Vinyasa, creative transitions, and playful sequencing based on anatomical principles.

For the foreseeable future I have made my home in Boulder, Colorado. The yoga here runs deep and I am grateful for so many wonderful teachers who helped me through months of turmoil in 2009 to define my unique gifts and start finding my path and teaching voice in a new environment. I have continued my exploration of Vinyasa yoga, learning to sequence in a more flow-oriented style while initiating deeper studentship into Anusara yoga.

Come play and explore with me in a class or private setting! Read more about the connections between my yoga training and engineering background here.
